As the Page Turns is a new and used bookstore located in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. I’ve been a patron of this store for several years, and they immediately appealed to me as I was evaluating potential subjects for my graphic design thesis project. Once I landed on As the Page Turns as my thesis project client, I reached out to the store owner, Amy Williams, and embarked on a visual process which would span the next few months.
The first step I had to take as I began digesting this project was understanding the business on a molecular level. This involved interviews with staff, reading local news, and taking trips to study the site. I also undertook extensive research to acquaint myself with the world of bookselling and truly understand the audience I wanted to reach.
As this project was in nature a visual project, the next stages of course centered the visual work. This was also a process of deep research as well as exploration of existing material and brainstorming future material. Throughout this project, I learned a great deal about As the Page Turns, as well as the art of bookselling and graphic design at large.
